About Me

Hi there, I’m Luke

Kia ora! I’m a Kiwi living in Toronto Canada for the past 15 years. When I’m not geeking out over AI and software development at Sync.com, you can find me indulging in my passions. As CTO, I’ve had the privilege of using Artificial Intelligence to improve the efficiency of our software teams, but it’s been a journey that started much earlier.

Growing up, I was always fascinated by the idea of machines learning and adapting. It wasn’t until I landed a job at Amazon that I dug deeper into Machine Learning and discovered how it could be applied in real-world scenarios. Since then, my love affair with AI has only grown stronger.

As we navigate increasingly complex problems on our own planet, I firmly believe that Agentic AI holds the key to unlocking solutions. This exciting area of research combines cutting-edge approaches like Generative AI to tackle some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. For me, it represents a new frontier in harnessing technology to make a meaningful impact.

With a degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering from the University of Canterbury, I’ve had my fair share of technical adventures. From tackling supply chain complexities at Amazon to helping small businesses grow with data-driven insights, I’ve enjoyed every minute of the challenge. Secure computing approaches have been a particular interest area for me – providing intelligent software that’s both secure and scalable has always driven me.

But here’s the thing: AI is more than just code or algorithms; it represents a profound shift in how we live and work. It’s like harnessing fire, electricity, farm tractors, and airplanes all rolled into one! I believe this technology will touch every aspect of our lives, from healthcare to security, government to manufacturing – the list goes on.

What excites me most about AI is its self-improving nature. By combining human knowledge with robotic embodiment, we can unlock new insights that go far beyond what we’ve achieved so far. It’s a brave new world out there, and I’m eager to explore it all!

When I’m not geeking out over AI (which is often!), you can find me curled up with a good book, cycling through the countryside, or plotting my next travel adventure. As a proud New Zealander (Southland specifically), I love exploring the great outdoors – whether that’s hiking in Oregon, Sailing in the Thousand Islands or paragliding in Rio de janeiro.

At this blog, I’ll be sharing my perspectives on AI, software development, and innovation. With practical experience guiding me alongside cutting-edge ideas, you can expect thoughtful commentary on the future of technology. It’s going to be a wild ride!

Cheers for joining me on this journey!

(Note: Kia ora is a traditional Māori greeting that roughly translates to “good day” or “hello”.)
